Georadars for over 1.8 million PLN will be purchased by PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A. Modern devices will speed up the assessment of the soil condition for future investment areas. The study will allow to “look” deep into the earth up to 20 meters. Railway workers will use the specialized equipment to examine the condition of the ground even for 15 km of lines a day.
GPR surveys are one of the best methods enabling precise assessment of the condition of the railway surface, the subrailing and the soil layers. Measurements will enable to indicate the so-called weak places, such as cracks and loose soil. The tests will provide full information on the condition of the ground without interfering with the rails. Thanks to this, there are no changes in trains schedules.
The devices will be equipped with measuring antennas ensuring the ability to check the quality of concrete layers in engineering structures, e.g. bridges, viaducts, retaining walls. This will allow users to detect quickly if there are any invisible cracks in the structures.
