Six Silesian universities are operating in the scientific and expert network of the “Observatory of Urban and Metropolitan Processes”. Its aim is to disseminate scientific achievements in the urban studies, increase the potential of research and expertise for local government, and prepare programs and projects related to urban and metropolitan processes.

The observatory was established at the University of Silesia. It was joint project of 6 Silesian universities: Silesian University of Technology, University of Economics and Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice, University of Business in Dąbrowa Górnicza and Academy of Technology and Humanities from Bielsko-Biała.

The Observatory is to provide expert services at the request of local government, carry out research and expertise, create a platform for the exchange of information and experience between individuals and institutions, and support the dynamic and sustainable development of the Upper Silesian metropolitan area.
