More SOWA Small Science Centres to be established

Small Science Centres SOWA– (Strefy Odkrywania, Wyobraźni Aktywności is a joint initiative of the Ministry of Education and Science (MEiN) and the Copernicus Science Centre. Within the project, 50 facilities will be created between 2021 and 2025. 

They will include a space for self-experimentation with interactive exhibits and a workshop space (Majsternia) where construction challenges can be undertaken, reports the MEiN.

Institutions interested in enrolling should demonstrate experience in popularising science, technology, education, culture, and the arts and be located in a town of up to 350,000 inhabitants. Each of them undertakes to adopt the SOWA Zone for five years. Applications will be accepted until 3 October 2023.

In 2021, 32 institutions from all over Poland have been selected, in which Zones of Discovery, Imagination and Activity are being opened. Currently, 25 such institutions are already in operation, and by the end of 2023, a further seven will be established. 

A further 18 centres will be selected in the ongoing call.
