The Naval Academy in Gdynia obtained the status of Partner Academy of the European Border and Coast Guard Agency – FRONTEX. The partnership agreement was concluded by the end of 2020.
The signed agreement enables conducting scientific and research works for FRONTEX and training, as well as extending the cooperation network of the Academy with other academic units of the European Union.
The agency was created in 2005 originally under the name “European Agency for managing operational cooperation at the external borders of EU Member States” – FRONTEX with its registered office in Warsaw as a response to the growing migratory pressure to Europe.
In 2016, in response to the unprecedented migration crisis, on the basis of FRONTEX, the European Border and Coast Guard Agency was established, with the scope of expanded tasks, among others for conducting rescue operations at sea and the possibility of wider cooperation with other maritime institutions of the European Union.
