The draft regulation, in which astronomy is included in the physical sciences, will have no any negative impact on research in this discipline, nor its funding from public sources, neither conducting studies in astronomy.
Division of disciplines is not the own idea of the Ministry. As the Ministry of Science emphasizes, the starting point for the new classification is the system of the science disciplines adopted by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). As part of the OECD classification, astronomy (including astrophysics, space science) is one of the subdisciplines within the discipline of “physical science”.
What is also important, the changed classification of disciplines will have no impact on the study. Universities conducting studies in the fields of astronomy will still be able to educate in this area.
