New method of diagnosing kidney damage caused by diabetes

04.03.2019

Researchers from the Jagiellonian University (UJ) in Krakow have developed a method that will help in diagnosing kidney damage caused by diabetes.

The method will also recognize the risk of renal failure. Researchers at the Jagiellonian University found that microvesicles in the urine can become a new biomarker of diabetic kidney disease.

A team from the Jagiellonian University under the supervision of Dr Ewa Stępień, working with scientists from the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences, worked on the solution since 2014. The invention has already been submitted to the Patent Office.
