The next instalment of the ‘PE with AWF – Active today for health in the future’ programme implemented by the Academies of Physical Education has been launched. It aims to shape fundamental movement skills among students.
The assumptions of the new round were announced during a congress at the Academy of Physical Education in Warsaw. During the meeting, the results of research into the physical condition of children and young people were presented, along with the results of activities carried out as part of the three previous rounds of the programme.
Research to date has indicated the problem of overweight and obesity, which affects more than 15 % of the surveyed students. Research has also shown a several per cent reduction in running endurance levels and a significant decrease in cardiorespiratory fitness.
At the same time, researchers observed an improvement in the physical fitness scores of children and young people and a smaller increase in the BMI index of those who regularly participated in additional classes.
