14.05.2020

The Office for Registration of Medicinal Products, Medical Devices and Biocidal Products has given scientists from the Collegium Medicum of the Nicolaus Copernicus University permission to start clinical studies aimed at combating SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Research will include patients with already diagnosed disease, but at an early stage of Covid- 19. The scientists’ goal is to shorten and alleviate the course of the disease – hence the name of the research project: ReCOVery. Doctors assumed that cardiac drugs could help patients. Patients from the hospital in Grudziądz will be the first to receive them.

– These are commonly known drugs. The first medicine is used to treat arrhythmias such as atrial fibrillation and supraventricular and ventricular tachycardia. The second drug is administered to patients with hypertension and coronary artery disease – explains the Vice Rector for Scientific Research of the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, Prof. Jacek Kubica.
