The fourth university in Poland, 16th in Central and Eastern Europe and 647th in the world are the positions of Nicolaus Copernicus University in Torun in the latest edition of the Webometrics Ranking of World Universities.
The Webometrics Ranking of World Universities is a compilation that examines the online presence of academic and research institutions based on a composite index. The Cybermetrics Laboratory, which produces this ranking, conducts a quantitative analysis of the internet and web content, particularly those related to the processes of scientific knowledge generation and communication. The best universities of the ranking are the American universities Harvard and Stanford and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Using quantitative methods, the Lab has designed and applied indicators to measure scientific activity on the web. Three criteria are used in the evaluation: visibility (50 %), transparency (10 %) and prestige (40 %).
