The Faculty of Chemistry of the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń obtained PLN 2.35 million from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education for the purchase of a new monocrystalline X-ray diffractometer.
The diffractometer will be equipped with a double X-ray source: lamps with Mo and Cu anodes and a temperature adapter (80-400K). Structural studies conducted with the use of the new diffractometer will serve to learn the molecular basis of biological and catalytic activity of small molecule compounds.
The diffractometer will also allow the testing of samples showing poor diffraction ability and thermally unstable compounds. Top-quality radiation sources and a detector will also allow the testing of chemically unstable substances and small crystals.
The investment will be an equipment base for structural research conducted at the faculty of chemistry, as well as within the Center of Excellence “Towards personalized medicine” under the project Initiative of Excellence – Research University.
