Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń signs Arctic agreement with the universities from Taiwan

The Nicolaus Copernicus University (UMK) in Toruń has signed an agreement with two Taiwanese universities: National Central University and the National Academy of Marine Research. The subject of the contract is scientific cooperation in conducting oceanological research and in Earth sciences.

The main goal of the cooperation is the annual participation of scientists from Poland and Taiwan in scientific expeditions to the NCU Polar Station in Spitsbergen and the launch by the Taiwanese side of a logistics and transshipment base in Longyearbyen in Svalbard in Norway, jointly with the Nicolaus Copernicus University.

The agreement also regulates the exchange of scientists and the implementation of joint research in Spitsbergen and the preparation of scientific publications by students and doctoral students from both countries. The official act of cooperation was signed in Longyearbyen. During the event, the Taiwanese Arctic Facility “TaiArctic” was officially opened, which will be at the disposal of scientists from the Nicolaus Copernicus University.
