Five Polish scientists received grants from the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO). They will receive 50,000 euro per year for 3-5 years to create independent laboratories.
In this year’s EMBO awarded nine young scientists:
Dr Aleksandra Pekowska and Dr Grzegorz Sumara from the Institute of Experimental Biology of the Polish Academy of Sciences, who created the first Polish Dioscuri Centers last year.
Dr Piotr Szwedziak, who studied archaea in the context of the cellular evolution as part of the International ReMedy Research Agenda at the Center of New Technologies at the University of Warsaw.
Dr Rafał Mostowy, from the Malopolska Center of Biotechnology of the Jagiellonian University, who in his research used “bacterial genomics to measure evolutionary changes in pathogenic bacteria”.
Dr Yusuke Azuma, also from the Malopolska Center of Biotechnology of the Jagiellonian University, who is developing “artificial subcellular compartments for storage and catalysis by re-designing and directed evolution of self-assembled protein cages”.
