Prof. Gerard Mourou, the 2018 Nobel Prize laureate in physics, received an honorary doctorate of the Wrocław University of Science and Technology. The official celebration will be held on November 15, the jubilee of the Wrocław University of Science and Technology.

– The granting of this highest honorary title of our university is a recognition of the great achievements of Professor Gerard Mourou for world science, in particular for the development of a method of amplifying ultra-short optical laser pulses with extreme powers, for the visionary initiative of the European scientific investment ELI (Extreme Light Infrastructure) and for many years of cooperation with the Polish scientific community – says the resolution of the Senate of the Wrocław University of Technology.

For a breakthrough idea that allowed the amplification of ultra-short laser pulses to very high optical powers, Prof. Mourou, along with his PhD student Donna Strickland, won the Nobel Prize in 2018.
