Almost 4 metres high, 19 circles and 2,200 rolls of paper newspapers decorated with gold paint decorates this year’s Christmas tree prepared by the staff of the University Library of the University of Warmia and Mazury (UWM) in Olsztyn.

It has become a tradition at UWM to display a non-standard Christmas tree in the lobby of the University Library. The first one was created in 2011.

Over the years, unusual Christmas trees have been erected in the lobby of the University Library, made from books, catalogue drawers, catalogue cards, origami, CDs, computers or mineral water bottles. There was also a special Christmas tree for the twentieth anniversary of the University made from floppy disks.

This year’s ecological project fits in with the ‘zero waste’ philosophy and emphasises the changing world of media, in which paper newspapers are giving way to digital editions.
