Olga Tokarczuk, winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature, author of books translated into more than thirty languages, two-time winner of the “Nike” Literary Prize, twice nominated for the American National Book Award, was granted an honorary doctorate from the Jagiellonian University in Krakow.
In his laudation, Prof. Ryszard Nycz from the Faculty of Polish Studies at the Jagiellonian University emphasized, that Olga Tokarczuk is one of the most outstanding, as well as the most respected, well-known and popular Polish writers in Poland and in the world.
The laudator also emphasized that the civil courage, independence of critical judgment, inventiveness and efficiency in the implementation of new cultural and social initiatives embodying step by step her understanding of civic obligations presented by Olga Tokarczuk – are even model qualities of a contemporary creator of culture who does not withdraw herself from life into a mythical “an ivory tower”, but personally and actively works on for her ideals and values.
