On the occasion of the 250th anniversary of the founding of the Commission on National Education, the Olsztyn scientific community is organising a nationwide conference “The Commission on National Education and its legacy”. The event will take place on 16-17 October 2023 at the Wojciech Kętrzynski Northern Institute and the new premises of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Warmia and Mazury (UWM) in Olsztyn. 

The scientific conference is organised by the Department of General and Welfare Pedagogy of the Faculty of Social Sciences at UWM, the Education Committee of the Wojciech Kętrzyn Scientific Society in cooperation with the Northern Institute in Olsztyn. 

The Commission of National Education was established on 14 October 1773 by the Sejm of the Republic of Poland as the first institution of public education in Poland and Europe. 

The theme of the conference is the historical and contemporary implications of the Commission’s achievements and legacy from a global and local perspective.
