“One and a half degrees. Science fights for climate”

18.11.2019

Professor Paweł Rowiński, Vice President of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN), hydrologist and hydrodynamics specialist will conduct an open lecture on November 21, 2019 at the Institute of Geophysics of the Polish Academy of Sciences, entitled “One and a half degrees. Science fights for climate.”

Professor Rowiński will try to answer the questions: Why is the Arctic warming faster than other regions of the world? Will we be suffering from floods? Are we at risk of a shortage of drinking water? Is it possible to stop climate change?

The symbolic slogan “one and a half degrees” often appears in discussions about global warming. The lecture will introduce the benefits of halting the rise in average temperature at this level (relative to pre-industrial times).

The lecture begins with the long-term Edu-Arctic project. Its goal is to present the successes of Polish science and the challenges it faces, primarily those in the field of polar research.
