“We should do everything in our power to protect human life. We should also protect Ukraine’s science and higher education sector from war-induced collapse, a growing generation gap and brain drain”, wrote the presidents of the three academies of science in an open letter. The joint position was adopted by Prof Anatoly Zagorodny, President of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (NANU), Prof Marcia McNutt, President of the US National Academy of Sciences (NAS) and Prof Marek Konarzewski, President of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN).
The open letter ‘Supporting the development of science in Ukraine one year after the invasion’ is part of a series of earlier activities. The presidents met last June in Warsaw. At that time, with representatives of other national academies of science, they discussed possible solutions that would best support Ukrainian scientists.
The signatories of the letter call for more members of the international scientific community to join in and continue to help the Ukrainian scientific community.
