The Parliamentary Committee on Education, Science and Youth on Tuesday, April 26, considered the presidential bill on the Copernican Academy and proposed its adoption after editorial amendments.
The Copernican Academy will strengthen the Polish academic staff and increase their competitiveness.
The project assumes that the Academy will consist of six chambers: the Chamber of Astronomy and Mathematical and Natural Sciences, the Chamber of Medical Sciences, the Chamber of Economic Sciences and Management, the Chamber of Philosophy and Theology, the Chamber of Legal Sciences and the Chamber of Copernican Prize Laureates.
According to the project, the World Copernican Congress will be organized every five years. The organizer of the Congress will be the Academy. In connection with the 550th anniversary of the birth of Nicolaus Copernicus falling in 2023, the first congress will be organized next year in Toruń, and will begin on February 19, on the astronomer’s birthday.
