The Patent Office of the Republic of Poland has granted the University of Rzeszów, together with the Podkarpackie Innovation Centre Sp.z.o.o., intellectual property rights to an invention entitled “Aerosol composition for the oral cavity”. The patent was created as a result of the project entitled: ‘Aerosol with cytisine for use in the oral cavity – an innovative form of drug in the treatment of nicotine addiction’, financed by the European Regional Development Fund for 2014-2020.
The creators of the invention are a team from the Department of Experimental and Clinical Pharmacology at the Institute of Medical Sciences (College of Medical Sciences) of the Rzeszów university, consisting of Prof. Piotr Tutka, Dr Eng. Anna Czerniecka-Kubicka, Dr Karol Wróblewski and Dr Patrycjusz Kołodziejczyk.
The patent obtained concerns the creation of a new form of cytisine. The team from the Department of Experimental and Clinical Pharmacology is conducting pioneering pre-clinical and clinical research on cytisine, a drug for the treatment of nicotine dependence, which is likely to become the most widely used drug in this indication worldwide.
