Pharmaceutical industry to receive innovative technology from the Jagiellonian University

15.05.2020

Faculty of Chemistry of the Jagiellonian University (UJ) in Krakow developed biocompatible nanocapsules that enable effective delivery of hydrophobic compounds to the body. The solution will soon be used in the pharmaceutical industry.

Two years ago, the university sold this technology to CHDE Polska SA. Now the company has announced that the first products based on the invention soon will go on market.

The developed solution allows to obtain stable and biocompatible capsules with diameters below 1 micrometer constructed of polysaccharide coatings and liquid oil cores, for which stabilization in the aqueous phase does not require the use of low-molecular surfactants.

The authors of the innovative solution are Prof. Szczepan Zapotocze from the Faculty of Chemistry and Dr Joanna Szafraniec-Szczęsny from the Faculty of Pharmacy.
