The University of Opole is the first university in Poland to receive funding from the Julian Schwinger Foundation for Physics Research. A research group from the Institute of Physics will receive the grant to study physical processes taking place in two-dimensional (2D) materials for nanoelectronics.
“The project carries great potential for interdisciplinary collaboration and will help create novel technologies and applications in fields as diverse as future quantum computers, memory devices, solar cells, nanoelectronics or medical equipment”, says research group member Dr Andreas Sinner, Professor at the University of Opole.
Two-dimensional materials currently form the core of modern quantum technologies. Further theoretical research into them does not require expensive experimental equipment or costly ‘trial-and-error’ methods to create substances, much needed for the above and many other nanotechnological applications.
