Folk journal “Pismo Folkowe”, published by the Academic Center of Culture of Maria Curie-Skłodowska University and Maria Curie-Skłodowska University (UMCS) in Lublin in cooperation with the Association of Folk Animators received the Oskar Kolberg Award in the category of people and institutions working for folk culture.
The competition has been taking place since 1974. Its purpose is to reward people and organizations that, like Kolberg, gather and popularize knowledge about traditional culture including its documenting, developing, protection and preservation.
This is the most prestigious award for people and institutions that promote folklore. This is not the first “Oscar” award obtained by the journal. In 2003, it was awarded the Folk Oscar – the main prize in the publishing category in the competition for the most interesting folklore event in the Lublin Province.
“Pismo Folkowe” has been published continuously since 1996 (until 2014 as “Gadki z Chatki”), and the editorial office has been the Academic Center of Culture of the Maria Curie-Sklodowska University.
