PLN 200 million will be allocated by the National Centre for Research and Development (NCBR) to ensure that universities are friendly to students with special needs. The call for applications in the ‘Accessibility of Higher Education Entities’ competition will run until 22 February 2024, with funding coming from the European Funds for Social Development programme.
The implementation of the principles of equal opportunities and non-discrimination is expressed at universities by providing appropriate infrastructure and organising the educational process in such a way as to ensure that studies are adapted to the needs of all students, including those with disabilities. Thanks to the support from the European Funds, more than 200 Polish universities have already taken specific measures to eliminate barriers in higher education.
“The budget for the competition was originally PLN 150 million. However, we decided to increase it by PLN 50 million. The sooner there is an elimination of barriers in access to studies, the better, and we all know that, apart from good ideas, money is necessary to provide equal opportunities”, says Dr Jacek Orzeł, director of NCBR.
