PM Gowin’s Reform to develop science in Poland

25.06.2018

The PM Gowin’s Reform gives an opportunity for the development of science disciplines that today are lost in large departments of universities – writes philosopher Dr. Mieszko Tałasiewicz in the “Rzeczpospolita” daily and emphasizes that the new law on science and higher education opens up a good perspective for Polish humanities.

In his article, Tałasiewicz rejects the accusation that the law “favors large and metropolitan universities against the small and provincial high schools.” The philosopher describes this as half-truth, because – in his opinion – the law favors simply good universities.

– Not always what is big is good and what is smaller is worse. There are great universities in smaller cities and weaker ones – in bigger ones. The new Act will allow universities to see what strengths and weaknesses they have and what is completely useless. And then, thanks to the regional university development fund, implemented with the law, the universities will know their best to develop, the worse to improve, and the weakest simply to cut off – writes Dr. Tałasiewicz.
