The European Patent Office (EPO) has announced nominations for the 2019 European Inventor Award. Dr Marta Karczewicz is one of 15 nominees, who throughout her professional career strived to create a technology that allows thousands of video files to be compressed without noticeable deterioration of image quality.
The Polish inventor is one of the three finalists in the category of “Lifetime achievement”. Hundreds of her inventions contributed to the streaming of high-quality movies, video conferencing and the use of virtual and augmented reality on mobile devices.
Marta Karczewicz completed PhD studies and after several years of work in Nokia, she moved to San Diego in the United States, where in 2006 she started working at Qualcomm. Currently, she is the vice president Qualcomm Technologies.
The winners of the European Inventors Prize 2019 will be announced on June 20 during the ceremony in Vienna.
