In Poland, astrophysicists from the Astronomical Center of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN) in Warsaw take part in an international project whose goal is to launch a new spectograph for the VLT (Very Large Telescope) telescope network in the Atacama Desert in Chile.
PAN informs that this sensitive equipment will be used to observe the sky in the near UV range. It will allow to learn more about stars, planets and galaxies.
The international team with the participation of astrophysicists of the Polish Academy of Sciences is working on a new spectograph called CUBES (Cassegrain Efficient Spectrograph). To make its work as efficient as possible, the scientists will focus only on part of the visible light, testing the light near ultraviolet range, with a wavelength of 300-400 nanometers.
CUBES accuracy will allow to observe celestial objects emitting very weak light, which could not be processed properly by spectrographs that were in operation before.
