On November 10, 2021, a special expedition, organized by the Institute of Geophysics of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN), set off to the AB Dobrowolski Polish Antarctic Station. It is the oldest Polish Antarctic station, unused since 1987. The participants of the expedition are planning to start research deep structures of the Earth and the generation process of the Earth’s magnetic field.
The Polish return to the base and its revitalization gives Poland a new, unique opportunity to develop research techniques and modern technologies.
The 4th Geophysical Expedition to the station is led by Prof. Marek Lewandowski (expedition leader, geophysicist), Prof. Eng. Monika A. Kusiak (geologist) and Dr Adam Nawrot (geomorphologist) from the Institute of Geophysics PAS and Prof. Wojciech Miloch, ionospheric physicist from the University of Oslo.
Polish scientists will reach Antarctica on the ship “Akademik Fedorow” with the 67th Russian Antarctic Expedition, organized by the Institute of Arctic and Antarctic Research in St. Petersburg.
