Polish-American cooperation in the construction of an innovative rolling station

11.02.2021

Scientists of the Lublin University of Technology (PL) with the support of the American company Parker Hannifin have developed an innovative rolling station. The numerically controlled rolling mill enables quick and precise creation of single metal elements of various sizes.

The elements produced by the rolling mill are used in machine building, they are also used to make tools and everyday objects.

-We started our cooperation with Parker Hannifin in 2017. Its result is a numerically controlled rolling mill, which belongs to a new class of machine tools for plastic forming of metals and their alloys. Our rolling mill enables the production of large-size blanks and elongated forgings such as axles and shafts. Its advantage is the production of both single elements and products in large series and mass production – said the Rector of the Lublin University of Technology, Prof. Zbigniew Pater, team leader from the Department of Computer Modeling and Metal Forming Technology.

Parker Hannifin’s experts, in addition to providing the appropriate components, helped scientists in the application of precision electric actuators in the rolling mill they designed. This solution was used for the first time in Poland.
