The AutoMedPrint project, implemented by the team of Professor Filip Górski from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the Poznań University of Technology, won the main prize in the competition of the Polish Agency for Enterprise Development in the category of the product of the future of higher education and science institutions.
The AutoMedPrint system is used for fast, automatic design and production of prostheses and limb orthoses, mainly for children, using 3D printing. It was created in a team of mechanical engineers and biomedical engineers in close cooperation with specialists in the field of medicine, informs the university.
Used a 3D scanner, AutoMedPrint allows to deliver a functional prosthesis or orthosis many times cheaper, even on the second day of taking the measurement. This makes a huge difference in the case of pediatric patients – most children with amputations and birth defects do not use prostheses due to their high cost, long waiting times and uncomfortable, problematic production processes.
