Researchers from the Malopolska Center of Biotechnology of the Jagiellonian University, in cooperation with the team of the National Institute of Public Health – National Institute of Hygiene in Warsaw, isolated and described the SARS-CoV-2 virus from a sample taken from the first patient from Poland who was diagnosed with coronavirus infection.
Description of the characteristic features of virus strains, which were appearing in Poland will allow tracking the spread of epidemics and identifying virus changes over time and responding quickly to such changes.
Observing these changes can be important in the development of medicines, treatment schemes, and infection diagnostics. The genome sequence will be available in public databases in the near future.
