Understanding the climate change scenario in the 3rd and 4th century AD in the north-eastern Adriatic is one of the goals of the project awarded by the National Science Center (NCN) by Dr Fabian Welca, Institute of Archeology of the Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University (UKSW) in Warsaw.
His research project “Fall, Crisis or Transformation? Correlation of changes in the late antique settlement with changes in the environment and climate in the region of the north-eastern Adriatic on the basis of the results of geoarchaeological and palaeoclimatic research” received funding in the amount of PLN 741,480 under the Opus 19 competition.
According to UKSW, in the work on the Adriatic Sea he will use, palaeoenvironmental indicators that will allow the reconstruction of environmental changes in the north-eastern region of the basin, i.e. Roman northern Dalmatia and Histria.
The use of many research methods, including geoarchaeological studies will allow for the first scenario of climate and environmental changes in the late Roman period for the eastern Adriatic region.
