Prof. Andrzej Dziembowski from the International Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology in Warsaw and Prof. Daniel Gryko from the Institute of Organic Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN) have been awarded prestigious Advanced Grants by the European Research Council (ERC).
ERC Advanced Grants is a competition that enables experienced scientists with an established track record to conduct groundbreaking research. In this competition, €544 million will be awarded to 218 scholars selected from 1,650 applications. Two Poles make up the group of laureates.
Prof Andrzej Dziembowski from the International Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology in Warsaw is the first scientist from Poland to receive an Advanced Grant in life sciences. The aim of his project is to understand the mechanisms of mRNA processing in cells and throughout the body, which will enable the development of a new generation of mRNA-based therapies.
Prof. Daniel T. Gryko from the Institute of Organic Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences became the first Polish chemist with an ERC Advanced grant. The aim of his ARCHIMEDES project (‘Approaching 20% emission efficiency in the NIR-II region with radical chromophores’) will be to obtain radical fluorophores emitting light in the near-infrared range.
