A group of Law and Justice MPs submitted to the Sejm a bill on the establishment of the Zamość Academy. It will be established on the basis of the Szymon Szymonowic Higher School.
The Zamość Academy was founded in 1594 by Jan Zamoyski and was the third university in Poland after the Krakow and Vilnius academies. One of its lecturers was Stanisław Staszic. In 1784, the Austrians liquidated the university.
In the justification, the applicants emphasize that education in the Academy will be “based on the history, in-depth Polish humanities and social studies, taught in the spirit of philosophical realism and the Christian national tradition”. In addition, other disciplines such as medical and health sciences, safety sciences, and agricultural sciences may be included. The Academy’s offer would be addressed to future educators, media employees, local and state administration, as well as people directly or indirectly related to security, involved in public health service, and dealing with the protection, dissemination and scientific analysis of the cultural heritage of Poles.
The applicants add that the reactivation of the Zamość Academy is part of the Project of the Development Strategy for the Lubelskie Voivodeship until 2030.
