“Independent Astronomy” is a new series of documentary television programs. Its transmission will start on Thursday, February 7 at 17:00 in TVP 3. The first episode will be devoted to the history of the Astronomical Observatory of the Jagiellonian University in Krakow.
The series will present the history of Polish astronomical centers since Poland regained its independence in 1918 to this day. The producers are the Polish Astronomical Society and Polish Television. The financing of the science series “Independent Astronomy – 100 Years of Polish Astronomy” was provided by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.
As underlined Prof. Maciej Mikołajewski, vice-president of the Polish Astronomical Society, the implementation of the series “Independent astronomy” – in addition to popular-scientific values – is also important for the history of astronomy and the history of science.
