A project (ecoscheme) to protect biodiversity is being implemented at the Pomeranian University of Slupsk’s Research and Education Station in Grzmiąca. A mixture of melliferous plants consisting of red clover, blue phacelia and nigella has been sown there.
Under the direction of the scientists, one of the sustainable agriculture schemes – areas with melliferous plants – is being implemented on agricultural land owned by the university. This is a type of intervention in the form of direct payments, under which the Slupsk university will receive additional payments for implementing practices beneficial to the environment and climate.
The area on which the melliferous plants have been sown provides long-lasting, diverse and safe foraging grounds for honey bees and wild pollinating insects. This contributes to the protection of biodiversity in rural areas.
