Poznań University of Economics has joined the Folding @ home project, run by Stanford University for 20 years, which aims to help scientists develop medicines for various diseases, including Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s diseases, and from 2020 also COVID-19.
The project focuses on researching and modeling the process of folding proteins that can cause disease. Its basic idea is to transfer small simulation fragments to be performed on volunteer computers and to compile the obtained results into a general simulation by the Stanford system.
Over one million computers have been already participating in Folding @ home, the total computing power of this project is one of the largest in the world. This allows for more advanced simulations than would be possible on most supercomputers. Joining the program is easy – just install the Folding @ home application on your business or private computer and let it work.
