Prof. Ewa Selki, director of the Institute of Geological Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN), has been elected president of the European Mineralogical Union (EMU). She replaced Prof. Michael Carpenter of the Cambridge University.
Prof. Ewa Słaby, professor of Earth Sciences and geochemist-petrologist, has been the director of the Institute of Geological Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences since 2016. She specializes in modeling igneous, volcanic and hydrothermal processes in the macro- and micro- scale.
EMU is an international scientific organization associating most of the national scientific societies representing mineralogy, petrology and geochemistry. Its aim is to deepen cooperation between member organizations, finance symposia at selected European scientific conferences and support scientific meetings and workshops organized in Europe. In addition, EMU organizes a series of training courses on basic topics in the field of mineralogy and related sciences, as well as encourage their application in the context of the environment, industry and health.
