Prof. Maciej Henneberg, one of the world’s most eminent biological anthropologists and a professor at the University of Adelaide, received an honorary doctorate from the University of Lodz (UŁ). The awarding ceremony took place during a meeting of the UŁ Senate on the occasion of National Education Day.
Prof. Wiesław Lorkiewicz, the supervisor of the honoris causa doctoral thesis, delivered a laudation in honour of Prof. Henneberg. He recalled Prof. Maciej Henneberg’s opposition record during the Solidarity era and the necessity of his emigration from Poland in 1984. He highlighted the laureate’s research achievements, including hundreds of publications in the world’s most prestigious scientific journals, which are the result of his scientific activity at universities in the USA, South Africa and Australia.
Prof. Maciej Henneberg’s scientific interests include issues concerning human evolution and microevolution, evolution of the human brain, biocultural evolution, human ecology, population genetics, palaeodemography, historical demography, palaeopathology, auxology, anatomy, comparative anatomy, ergonomics, archaeology and medical-forensic issues.
