Prof. Randall J. Platt, an expert in genetic engineering, became the first ever laureate of the Stanisław Lem European Science Award. The laureate was selected by the jury composed of outstanding foreign scientists and the Wrocław University of Science and Technology and Tomasz Lem, the writer’s son.
Prof. Platt is 34 years old scientist from the USA, and works at the Department of Biosystem Engineering at the Swiss Federal Polytechnic University of Zurich. There, he has built a research team that deals with the development and improvement of applications of indicator cell technology. Together, they strive to create completely new methods of biomedical engineering.
The Stanisław Lem European Scientific Award was established to commemorate the 100th birthday of the outstanding Polish science-fiction novelist. It is aimed at young scientists (up to 40 years of age) studying or conducting research in the European Union and associated countries participating in the Horizon Europe program.
