Prof Zbigniew Izdebski from the Faculty of Education at the University of Warsaw (UW) has been awarded the Magnus Hirschfeld Medal by the Deutsche Gesellschaft Für Sozialwissenschaftliche Sexualforschung (DGSS) for special merits in human sexuality research and sex education.
This is the first time the Magnus Hirschfeld Medal has been presented to a Pole.
Prof. Zbigniew Izdebski is a sexologist, educator, family counsellor and public health specialist. He heads the Department of Biomedical Foundations of Development and Sexology at the Faculty of Pedagogy of the University of Warsaw. Since 2019, he has been the Chair of the Scientific Council of the Discipline of Pedagogy at UW. Since October 2023, he has been the coordinator of the Faculty of Medicine at UW.
He also heads the Department of Humanisation of Medicine and Sexology of the Institute of Health Sciences at the University of Zielona Góra. Since 2010, he has been a permanent research associate at the Kinsey Institute for the Study of Sex, Sexuality and Procreation at Indiana University, USA.
