Professor Andrzej Więcek, head of the Clinic of Nephrology, Transplantology and Internal Diseases of the Medical Faculty of the Silesian Medical University was awarded the European Society of Nephrology Prize (ERA-EDTA).

It is recognition of the outstanding contribution of Prof. Więcek in the development of the Society. Prof. Więcek has been a member of ERA-EDTA for 30 years. In 2011 he became secretary-treasurer and three years later the President of this organization. During his term in office, he stabilized the financial situation of the Society, reorganized the office in Parma and increased the number of ERA-EDTA members. The professor is also the originator of the virtual museum ERA-EDTA and its first custodian.

The award ceremony will take place on May 24 – during the opening ceremony of the European Society of Nephrology Congress in Copenhagen.
