The Presidium of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAS) appointed Prof. Iwona Hofman, dean of the Faculty of Political Science, Maria Curie Skłodowska University (UMCS) in Lublin, chairman of the Council of Scientific Societies at the Presidium of the Polish Academy of Sciences for the term 2019-2022.

The President of the Polish Academy of Sciences, Prof. Jerzy Duszyński emphasized: “this decision is an expression of appreciation for the Professor’s extensive scientific, research and organizational achievements and commitment to the development of the social scientific movement”.

Professor Iwona Hofman is the first woman and the first scientist from Lublin in the history of the Council appointed for this position.
The Council of Scientific Societies was founded in 1963. It is a social, national representative body of scientific societies with the status of a problem committee at the Polish Academy of Sciences.
