Professor Jan Cwajna from the Faculty of Materials Science and Metallurgy of the Silesian University of Technology received the Henry Clifton Sorby Award granted by the International Metallographic Society.

Professor Cwajna is a graduate of the Silesian University of Technology. He obtained his PhD degree and postdoctoral degree in material engineering at his alma mater in 1991, in 2002 he received the title of professor. His scientific achievements include 381 works (including 7 monographs and chapters in monographs, 80 scientific publications in international journals, 58 publications in national magazines), 84 scientific and research works and 4 patents, including 1 in Europe.

The Henry Clifton Sorby Award is awarded to people known in the international scientific community for a comprehensive contribution to broadly understood metallography and material engineering. The laureate delivers the main lecture during the annual meeting of the International Metallographic Society.
