Professor Ryszard Horodecki, a correspondent member of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN) from the International Center for Theory of Quantum Technologies of the University of Gdańsk becomes a laureate of the Prize of the Physics Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences. The prize was awarded for outstanding contribution to the theory of quantum computing and the development of this field.
A team of scientists led by Prof. Horodecki developed an effective, economic method of detecting a new resource called entanglement, and discovered the so-called States with associated entanglement – black holes in quantum information, and also made a significant contribution to the field of quantum channel theory and quantum information processing.
Professor Horodecki is a co-creator of the avant-garde field of science, which is quantum computing. Together with his sons Paweł, Michał and Karol and in cooperation with Prof. Robert Alicki and Prof. Marek Żukowski created a quantum computer science center in Gdańsk, which became a famous global research center in this field.
