The Rector of the Poznań University of Economics, Professor Maciej Żukowski, speaking on behalf of the university’s academic community, signed the Magna Charta Universitatum document. During the ceremony at the University of Łódź, representatives of 34 universities from Poland and abroad affixed their signatures to the declaration.

Magna Charta Universitatum is a confirmation of the fundamental principles that should underpin the mission of universities. The first of these principles is independence: research and teaching must be free from all political influence and economic considerations in terms of their motives and content.

According to the second principle, teaching and research should form an inseparable whole, involving students in the search for and deepening of knowledge and a broader cognitive horizon. The third principle states that the university is a place of free inquiry and exchange of ideas, distinguished by its openness to dialogue and rejection of intolerance.
