The Senate of the Vasil Stefanyk National Carpathian National University in Ivano-Frankivsk (Ukraine) decided to award Prof. Marcin Pałys, rector of the University of Warsaw (UW) the title of doctor honoris causa. The ceremony is planned for September in Ukraine.
Professor Igor Celenda, rector of the Carpathian National University, explains that awarding Prof. Pałys is an expression of gratitude for his involvement in one of the most important strategic projects, which is the renewal of the former UW Observatory on Mount Pop Ivan. It will become a powerful scientific center not only for both universities, but also a symbol of brotherly ties between Ukrainians and Poles.
Dr Marcin Pałys has been the rector of the Warsaw university since 2012. In 2016, he took over the chairmanship of the Conference of Rectors of Warsaw Universities. In the years 2008–2012 he was the Vice-Rector for development and financial policy of the University of Warsaw. Earlier he worked as the deputy dean of the Faculty of Chemistry. In the 2019-2023 term, he sits on the board of the European University Association.
