Researchers at the Faculty of Spatial Management and Landscape Architecture at Wrocław University of Life Sciences have looked into the problem of energy generated from renewable sources in local government units. The results of their work have been published in The Anthropocene Review.
The research shows that the inhabitants of small towns and villages can play a key role in the energy transition in Poland. It is these communities that have the potential to create local and independent systems that guarantee energy security throughout the country.
“It is distributed generation that strengthens energy security and shortens the production chain. We decided to see to what extent the actors located in the different counties are involved in the creation of sustainable energy systems. We checked the relationship between consumption and production of renewable energy in local communities”, says one of the authors of the study, Prof Jan Kazak.
