Dr Agata Weydmann-Zwolicka from the Institute of Oceanography of the University of Gdańsk has been awarded the prestigious scholarship of the Polish-American Fulbright Commission in the Senior Award category 2019/20.
The Gdańsk researcher will carry out the project “The impact of atlantification on the Arctic zooplankton: application of modern genomics methods” in cooperation with scientists from the Department of Marine Sciences and the Institute for Systems Genomics at the University of Connecticut.
The main scientific goal of the project is to study the impact of climate change and the so-called Arctic atlantification on the biodiversity of zooplankton in the region of the West Spitsbergen Current, transporting into the Arctic the water of Atlantic origin and various planktonic organisms. Particular emphasis will be put on poorly known taxonomic groups and the biomass that are likely to change with global warming.
