Dr Radosław Zajdel from the Wrocław University of Life Sciences has been awarded a MERIT grant for the ‘BIG4’ project, which aims to explore the full potential of using GNSS technology for precision geodetic research and monitoring of changes occurring on Earth.

Implemented in cooperation with the GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences in Potsdam, the grant will enable Dr Zajdel to work for 30 months at the Pecný Geodetic Observatory in the Czech Republic.

The project ‘BIG4 – Benefits of GNSS Integration for Geodesy, Geophysics and Geodynamics’ focuses on the use of global navigation satellite systems (GNSS), such as GPS, GLONASS, Galileo and BeiDou (BDS), to improve the accuracy of Earth observations and the provision of global geodetic reference systems. The name BIG4 refers to the so-called Big Four global navigation systems.

MERIT is a scholarship programme that promotes scientific mobility and research implementation in the region.
